  WOULD you rather have a BMW – or a Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge with the Iron Man logo?

Samsung last month unveiled its long-rumoured Iron Man Edition Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge flagship smartphone.

The South Korean company confirmed it would only release 1,000 handsets as part of its limited edition collaboration with Marvel Studios.

Samsung's red and gold Galaxy S6 Edge is designed to match the Iron Man suit and was released to promote Avengers: Age of Ultron.

One of the Iron Man S6 Edge handsets sold this week for a breath-taking £58,000.

The record sum was paid by an anonymous Chinese bidder.

The serial number of the limited edition S6 Edge – number 66 of 1,000 – is thought to be behind the staggering price hike. The numbers six and 66 are considered lucky in China.

More than 90,000 other Samsung fans placed bids on the  red and gold Galaxy S6 Edge on China’s second biggest ebay-style website, JD.com.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is the eleventh film in Marvel Cinematic Universe and the direct sequel to The Avengers – which became the third highest-grossing film of all-time after its release in 2012.

Iron Man, played by Robert Downey Jr, is one of the main protagonists in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU.Samsung released a Marvel Avengers theme for its Samsung Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge last month.

The limited edition theme includes a choice of custom wallpapers, lock screens and app icons.
